The great and not so great things we experience are hinged on keeping us in the moment, but a picture, video or journal of that moment serves as an immortal piece of such experiences. For the good, it brings back smiles to our faces and brightens our present state while the bad gives us the assurance that there’s always a light at the end of every situation.
We meet different individuals at different phases in life and the possibility of growing with the same set of people in the friendship space all through the years is very slim. But keeping memories would give one a higher chance of reconnecting.
Moving from high school, I had great friends, but all I have left is the mental pictures of that season. All through my junior secondary school, I had no picture or video to remind me of some moments I’d love to relive.
I understand that having mobile phones wasn’t prominent for students my age at that time but I wish we could have devised other means to keep those moments in the sands of time
Getting into senior secondary school, I got introduced to Diary Writing, it was actually fun writing how each day went, what made you happy, how you’re crushing on a boy, the gist you heard about a girl or the beef you’re having with someone. On the other hand, a con aside misplacing the diary is ensuring no one else has access to it. We really had to guard that diary with all we had. But years later, who still has his/her diary in check?
I really appreciate something that was done in my primary school where at the end of each session, there’s a group class photograph. Till date I can mention the names of over 70 percent of the class.
Technology has made things easier for us. We can keep memories on the internet and as long as the internet still exists, our memories are intact and accessible to us.
I enjoy every moment I spend rewatching videos (memories) I upload on YouTube. It literally takes me back in time to the beauty in that phase and I love it. I hope to be able to do more of it.
The memories we don’t keep, gets lost in time.
So guys, in any way possible, take that picture, press that record button, open that personal blog and you’ll be glad you did.
Posterity would thank you.
