Ajuwaya in an Ijaw land

Glory to God, I'm at the end of my service year and I've successfully completed my 12 months of National Service to Nigeria. I was privileged to serve in the South-South region, precisely Bayelsa state. I remember waking up one random morning with a nudge that I was going to serve in Bayelsa and the first thing I did was to open google and search for opportunities in the financial sector of the state. I found out that there was a CBN branch located in Yenagoa and probably that was where the "Lord was sending me to". Ever since then, I've always told those around me that I would serve in Bayelsa. Every time my Mum heard that, she would immediately reject it for me because it is not her daughter that would go for service in a very distant location.  After a very long while (Covid and a sprinkle of OAU), it was finally time to register for NYSC. All my attempts to select four states were futile. I kept on seeing "no states available" and in the end, I regis...

MEMORIES ☑️

Every phase of our life is short lived but the memories we keep lasts  forever. The great and not so great things we experience are hinged on keeping us in the moment, but a picture, video or journal of that moment serves as an immortal piece of such experiences. For the good, it brings back smiles to our faces and brightens our present state while the bad gives us the assurance that there’s always a light at the end of every situation.  We meet different individuals at different phases in life and the possibility of growing with the same set of people in the friendship space all through the years is very slim. But keeping memories would give one a higher chance of reconnecting. Moving from high school, I had great friends, but all I have left is the mental pictures of that season. All through my junior secondary school, I had no picture or video to remind me of some moments I’d love to relive. I understand that having mobile phones wasn’t prominent for students my age at that...

POST-COVID AND THE NEW NORMAL

Obviously, several persons heard “New Normal” for the first time due to Covid-19, however, the term “New Normal” has existed way before the Covid-19 pandemic. Between 2007 and 2008, there was a Global financial crisis and economists refers to this crisis as the deepest financial crisis that hit the world. In a bid to highlight the aftermath of the financial crisis, business experts and economist made use of the term “New Normal” which simply identifies a deviation from the normal. So, simply put, New Normal may refer to an abnormal scenario or change from the former.       To provide a little background information on Covid-19, the Centre for Disease Control on its website explained that “COVID-19 is caused by a coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. Older adults and people who have severe underlying medical conditions like heart or lung disease or diabetes seem to be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness”. The vir...
